EnCana and Heart Lake First Nation Enter New Partnership

CALGARY, Alberta (June 23, 2005) - A signing ceremony took place on Wednesday, June 22 at EnCana Place, to celebrate a new business partnership between EnCana Corporation and Heart Lake First Nation.

In the partnership, EnCana commits to three years of contracts to Heart Lake. The revenues are to be used for the purchase of construction equipment, worth $2 million, which will be contracted by EnCana for activities at the nearby Foster Creek Thermal Recovery Project.

"We want the communities that are adjacent to our activities participating meaningfully in our projects," says Harbir Chhina, VP Oil Recovery for Foster Creek. "Building capacity in these communities makes good business sense and is in keeping with EnCana's social responsibility objectives."

This initiative builds on efforts by EnCana to substantively engage Aboriginal communities through business ownership. Similar long term contracts and commitments have been provided by EnCana to other Aboriginal, Inuit and Métis communities to enable capital investments in drill rigs, service rigs, camps and catering, fuel supply, security and emergency medical services, among many others enterprises.

Heart Lake First Nation is based near Lac La Biche, Alberta.

"EnCana and my community have had a very positive and longstanding relationship," says Chief Monias of Heart Lake First Nation. "Our relationship has benefited my community through increased employment and revenues. My community is proud of what we have accomplished through our business ventures."

EnCana spends approximately $110 million directly with Aboriginal businesses every year in addition to significant contributions to Aboriginal communities through indirect contracts, community investment and educational bursaries.

EnCana Corporation is one of North America's leading natural gas producers and the largest holder of oil and gas onshore resource land in North America. EnCana focuses on contributing to the strength and sustainability of communities where we are privileged to live and work.
