Given that the work we do is not without risks, we stress safety as a core value across our operations. We are enhancing our safety focus and increasing communication on the importance of safety in all areas of our operations and equipping our leaders, staff and contractors with the information and tools they need.

The scope of our operations means that we work with thousands of suppliers, contractors and consultants. We are working together with them to drive our safety performance. As is expected of all our employees, we require anyone working with us to sign off on their understanding and acceptance of our policies and practices.

ISNetworld is an industry safety data tool used by our Canadian operations to evaluate a contractor's written safety program and corresponding documentation. As of June 30, 2009, all sub-contractors working on our Canadian sites are required to be on an approved contractor list. By only working with approved contractors, field coordinators and supervisors we can better maintain a superior level of due diligence for site safety.

PEC Premiere is a company contracted by our USA operations to assist contractors with achieving high standards of workplace safety, health and environmental awareness. Our USA operations also audit contractors to ensure that their written environmental, health and safety programs and their operations and behaviours in the field meet our value-driven standards. In 2010, we will begin requiring SafeLandUSA-certified training for all of its contractors working in the field on our USA sites.

We strive to identify, eliminate or control hazards and prevent injuries on our worksites by:

• demanding an alcohol- and drug-free workplace

Our Environment, Health and Safety Management System and principles guide our behaviour and help our staff achieve a desired level of performance. By following the programs, practices and procedures stemming from the management system, we meet our required accountabilities and demonstrate sound performance to our stakeholders.
