Our continuous focus on safety across our operations led to a record setting year in 2014, and we’re aiming to improve on our performance in 2015.
Safety is a foundational value at Encana; it’s part of our culture and engrained in all we do. While we continually stay safety focused and strive for zero incidents, 2014 marked one of the strongest years for overall Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) performance in our history.
The extra effort in 2014 – even amidst all the change to our asset portfolio – paid off.
Even more impressive, the Eagle Ford and Permian assets were integrated under Encana’s 2014 TRIF target of <0.50, despite the fact that these assets had historically higher TRIF records with previous operators.
“I’m proud of every person on my team, in the operating areas and employees company-wide and I thank them for all the hard work, efforts and contributions that enabled such strong performance in 2014,” says Byron Gale, Vice-President EH&S, Regulatory Affairs and Security. “Everyone contributed to the results whether they were focused on health & safety, environmental and regulatory compliance, security, strategic EH&S, or well operations and information management.”
Our drive for continuous improvement won’t stop. The company is aiming for a 10 percent improvement in 2015 over 2014 results.
Good safety performance doesn’t come at the expense of operational performance. A recent safety audit completed in our Central Operations group showed that our best performing rigs are also the ones with the best safety record.
